I have always been fascinated by cemeteries, mainly because I think about all the stories those people could tell and the history that has been lost. I visited the Huron Indian Cemetery in KC last year, taking photos to upload to "Find A Grave." The shape this cemetery is in is deplorable. The walkway leading in to the cemetery is dilapidated and missing boards in many places. There was also a spot that actually looked like someone had been sleeping under it. Such humongous disrespect for our ancestors.
Clavin never disappoints. In this column, we learn about a Native American woman who argued before the Supreme Court years before women could even vote. And even though she lost her case -- to protect her ancestors' graveyard from development -- she eventually won her cause. Today, that graveyard is protected by the full force of the U.S. government's Register of Historic Places. And rightfully so!
Conley may have not worn war paint, but she certainly was a warrior! Quite a tale of a real hero.
Indeed!

Thank you for letting us know.
